Yes, it IS quite dark on the highway, but it’s still reasonably safe if you drive cautiously and don’t speed. I’m with RedRocks on this one, though – it would be better to stay on the north side of Phoenix, and make the drive in the daytime.
Northern Arizona presents some lovely scenery…from the Red Rocks of Sedona to the longest section of preserved historic Route 66 – the Mother Road – in the country.
Don’t make the mistake of taking a trip to Sedona for a night or two, three to five days is the time needed to see Sedona, the Grand Canyon and beyond. Red Rock Country has numerous things to do for pet owners that can be enjoyed any time of year.

Can you get around Sedona without a car? Absolutely. The Verde Shuttle bus is efficient and cheap (fares within Sedona are just $1), but you’ll need to do a little planning. Buses run seven days a week, following two different schedules.
Amtrak is the one and only train line which connects Los Angeles, California to Sedona, Arizona. Furthermore, there is only one train per day, so you will have to plan your travel around this limited availability.
