Introducing Disney Genie service and Disney Genie+ service, conveniently built into the My Disney Experience mobile app. Once you log into your Disney account, these services magically make your theme park visit easier and more fun. It’s like having your own personal genie in the palm of your hand.
Is Disney Genie free? Yes, Disney Genie, the park planning tool, is free. However, the FastPass+ replacement, Genie+, has a daily fee.
Disneyland guests can use Genie+ on a smartphone in the Disneyland app on the day of their park visit. It works by allowing them to reserve return times for many popular attractions. The return times are hourlong windows, usually with an unpublished grace period of five minutes early and 15 minutes late to redeem.
The Disney Genie Plus is $20 for the entire day. It includes “Lightning Lane” access to almost every popular ride with the exception of Rise of the Resistance, Webslinger, and Cars.
Disney Genie is a complimentary trip-planning service, Disney Genie+ is a paid service that lets you use a Lightning Lane entrance to bypass the standby line on select attractions, and individual attraction selections allow you to pay to skip the line on up to two high-demand attractions per day.
How many Individual Lightning Lane attraction reservations can each guest book per day? Two, and those reservations must be at different attractions. (In other words, no doing Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance–or anything else–twice.)
The only material difference in the analogy is that the same Lightning Lane will not give access to both Genie+ and individual attraction purchases–it’ll be either/or.
In our experience, we have seen that reservations for Genie+ rides CAN run out temporarily in the parks. BUT they often come back with availability later on in the day. So technically they can “sell out,” but we’ve seen most of the rides get re-stocked during the same day.
So, the simple answer to whether Genie+ and Individual Attraction Selections can “sell out” is no. But, it is important to keep in mind that you may need to check your My Disney Experience app often to pick up a return time when more are released (something that was also necessary with the former FastPass+ program).
Once your return time is called, you can board the attraction using the Lightning Lane. The individual Lightning Lane attractions selections are not included with Genie+. They are sold separately and are pay-per-use.
There will be no limit on the ability to buy the Disney Genie+ add-on; however, Genie+ selections will “run out” throughout the day, much like FastPass+ selections did.
How Much Does Genie Plus Cost? Genie+ costs $15 per person, per day. You can purchase the Genie+ option before your trip along with your park tickets, or on specific days of your visit. If purchased in advance, the $15 fee is charged for every person who will use Genie+, for every ticketed day of your trip.
For us, the answer is YES. Genie Plus was worth the money for the days we used it. It allowed us to hit (almost) all of the top rides we wanted to do in a limited amount of time, with very short wait times. I don’t think we waited more than 10 minutes in any of our Lightning Lane queues.
If you’ve already purchased Walt Disney World theme park tickets, you can upgrade them in advance to include Genie+ for the length of your stay. To do so, open the My Disney Experience Mobile App, tap on the three horizontal lines located on the bottom right corner, and select Tickets and Passes.
Q: Do I have to wait until 7 am to purchase Genie+? A: No. If you want it for the duration of your vacation, you can add it to your package before you travel. If you want to purchase it for individual days, you can do it beginning at midnight the “night before” you want to use it.
In short, the answer is: No, you do not need to purchase Disney Genie+ to buy Individual Lightning Lane attractions.
You can only use Genie+ on each attraction one time per day. So, if you book an early morning pass for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, use it, and then want to ride Thunder Mountain again later in the day…you’ll need to wait in the standby line.
Disney Genie provides guests personalized itinerary planning; a real-time Tip Board with customized recommendations for experiences, wait times and next showtimes, and Lightning Lane return times; restaurant waitlist, check-in and reservations; mobile order; and access to attraction virtual queues (currently available …
You can add Disney Genie+ to your existing tickets by going into the My Disney Experience app and locating the Disney Genie section near the top of the page, and then click on “My Day” in the top right corner of that section.
You CAN cancel Genie+ reservations as long as it’s BEFORE they expire. Otherwise, you’ll need to visit Guest Relations unless you’re okay with missing out on that attraction’s Lightning Lane for the day.
For now, unless you’re wanting to repeat major attractions or are going on a significantly busier day, Genie+ is not necessary at Epcot if you’re spending all–or even most–of the day here. The only way buying Genie+ at Epcot, at least with moderate or lower crowd levels, makes sense is when Park Hopping.
To do so, please open up your My Disney Experience Mobile app, tap on the three horizontal lines located on the bottom right corner, and then select Tickets and Passes. Next, you will want to find your theme park ticket and then choose the “Change Ticket” link to add the Disney Genie+ service.
Can you book plans in another park if you don’t tell Genie you’re hopping? Yes! If you don’t tell Genie you’re hopping, you can still book Lightning Lanes and dining in your second, third, or fourth park. There are no limitations.
Number of days | Add-on fee for Park Hopper Plus tickets |
---|---|
1 day ticket | $85.00 |
2-3 day base tickets | $95.00 |
4-10 day base tickets | $105.00 |
When you’re planning your day through Disney Genie, you’ll see an option at the bottom that will tell you to “Plan for Your Next Park.” When you tap that, you’ll be able to tell Genie what park you plan to visit…
Based on our experience, the individual Lightning Lanes that are most worth the purchase on an average day are Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Avatar Flight of Passage, Frozen Ever After and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
Good news! Yes, it appears there is a grace period for Genie+ Lightning Lane reservations. The new system mimics the old experience guests found when using FastPass+ selections. Guests making a Lightning Lane selection for an attraction will be given a one-hour window to return to the ride.
You can only buy an individual Lightning Lane for each ride once per day. So each guest gets up to two distinct individual Lightning Lanes each day. That’s not per park—it’s total.
Lightning Lane is the new system that Disney is using for faster lines available at select attractions at the theme parks. … While individual Lightning Lane selections can be made as early as 7 am for hotel guests or whenever the park opens on a certain day, once the reservations have been made, they cannot be canceled.
Park Hopper allows you access to multiple parks within a single day. Park Hopper Plus allows you access to multiple parks within a single day, and several extra admissions. Park Hopper option does not allow you to access water parks. Park Hopper allows you to enter water parks.
Park Hopper and Park Hopper Plus Options include same-day admission to all 4 theme parks on each day of your ticket. In addition, the Park Hopper Plus Option includes a certain number of visits to a water park or other Walt Disney World fun. Water Parks subject to rehabilitation, season and weather closures.
