Despite the winter theme at the park, cold weather means guests won’t be able to visit Disney’s Blizzard Beach for several days.
Masks are not allowed to be worn in the water or on water slides. For Blizzard Beach, masks are required in the restrooms and dressing rooms, shops and any fully indoor locations. All of the dining locations are outdoors so you are not required to wear a mask.
Like the other areas of Walt Disney World Resort, we will welcome back Guests and Cast Members to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park in a responsible way, with a plan focused on health and well-being. View additional details. Swim attire must be appropriate for a family environment.
Weather at Disney World in December
Disney’s Blizzard Beach and LEGOLAND’s Water Park are closed for the season (Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, SeaWorld by Aquatica and Wet ‘n’ Wild are open and heated). The Disney resort pools and most Orlando hotel pools are heated! Here is the packing list for this time of year.
We were expecting Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon to open in December but delays in refurbishment have pushed it back to January 2, 2022. Both water parks receive an annual refurbishment, but Typhoon Lagoon has not reopened since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Volcano Bay will only have one attraction closed for refurbishment in October. Maku of the Maku Puihi Round Raft Rides will be unavailable in October, so despite it being Halloween season, with the warm Florida sun, you should still be able to enjoy a full day at Volcano Bay.

The weather may be cooler, but the water is still warm. The pools, rivers and rides all have water heated to over 80 degrees. Tip: I know it’s still chilly when you get out of the water. Have a towel ready to snuggle in to when you get out, and a change of warm clothes when you finish your day.
Disney’s Blizzard Beach
Walt Disney World® Resort. Granted, Walt Disney World Resort’s headliners are Magic Kingdom® Park, EPCOT®, Disney’s Hollywood Studios® and Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, but it’s also home to two magical water parks: Disney’s Blizzard Beach® Water Park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon® Water Park.
Both Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon Water Parks offer complimentary life jacket rentals. You will need to leave a refundable deposit when picking up your jackets. When you arrive at the water park, simply ask a Cast Member to point you in the direction of life jacket rentals.
With rain, try and check out the weather before you go to see what the chance of storms is for your day there. They won’t close the park just for rain and it’s kind of fun to be in the wave pool or lazy river when it’s raining! If the thunder/lightning is six miles or more out, they keep the park open.
Polar Patios at Disney’s Blizzard Beach can be rented for around $300 per day depending on the season and Lodge Umbrellas will cost around $40-$50 per day, but please note that prices are subject to change.
Relax in the calm waters of the wave pool, which mirrors the snow-covered Mount Gushmore. Power down the slopes on Storm Stormers—and take Melt-Away Bay by storm. Feel out the water and get ready to play in gentle waves that lap the shore.
You’ll also find lazy rivers at both water parks, Cross Country Creek at Blizzard Beach and Castaway Creek at Typhoon Lagoon. From what I could find, it looks like Blizzard Beach’s lazy river is about 2-3 feet deep and Typhoon Lagoon’s about 3-4 feet deep.
Volcano Bay or Aquatica: Which is Better? Ultimately, you can’t really go wrong with either choice. … Aquatica can be friendlier to younger children, while Volcano Bay will catch the attention of older kids and teens who may be more adventurous and thrill-seeking.
At both Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon visitors can spot some of their favorite Disney characters — and a few are even in unique costumes.
