The most popular way to get to the Exumas is to fly there aboard Bahamasair (tel. 800/222-4262; www.bahamasair.com), which offers twice-daily service from Nassau to George Town.
Great Exuma is much safer and more drug-free than most major cities in the US and Europe. The police are very vigilant and the government, as part of its drive to promote tourism, is clamping down on such crime as does occur.
The other islands (such as like Abacos, Andros, Eleuthera, Exumas – locally called Family Islands or Out Islands) are generally safer than Nassau or New Providence, with little violent crime occurring.

Security – Eleuthera is one of the safest islands in the Bahamas. There isn’t a lot of trouble here because most of the inhabitants are peaceful. People who live here also watch out for their neighbors. It is much like a very small town where everyone knows one another.
