Most Nicaraguans are of mestizo origin, the result of breeding between the original Spanish settlers and the native indigenous people. … The mixture of Roman Catholicism that the Spanish brought with them and local indigenous culture has produced something quite unique in Central America.
Nicaragua has a tropical climate with little seasonal variation in temperature, which ranges between 21˚C-27˚C, and two distinct rainfall seasons: a ‘wet’ season’ (May-October) and a ‘dry’ season (November-April). A dry period called the ‘Canícula’ regularly interrupts the wet season during late July and early August.

The most popular sport in Nicaragua is baseball, and baseball diamonds can be found throughout the country. Boxing has grown in popularity, largely in response to the success of Nicaraguan fighter Alexis Arguello. Other preferred sports include football (soccer), weightlifting, and swimming.
Since 1990, the United States has provided over $1.2 billion in assistance to Nicaragua. About $260 million of that was for debt relief, and another $450 million was for balance-of-payments support.

Nicaragua has a small military force with only 9,412 members as of 2010. This number includes 1,500 officers (16%), 302 non-commissioned officers (3%), and 7,610 troops (81%).
The United States remains Nicaragua’s top economic partner, buying 49 percent of Nicaraguan exports, supplying 22 percent of its imports, and sending 60 percent of its remittances. Total (two-way) goods trade between the two countries was $4.9 billion in 2020.
