Wondering which beach in Florida has the clearest water? The following areas are more likely to have clear water on any given day: northwest Florida beaches in and around Panama City Beach, Destin, Fort Walton Beach, and Pensacola; southwest Florida beaches on Anna Maria Island, Longboat Key and Siesta Key.
The Mississippi River empties into the Gulf of Mexico about 100 miles downstream from New Orleans, which is about 250 miles from Destin. Being so far from the river’s entrance to the Gulf has helped our water stay crystal clear.
Destin. Destin is commonly referred to as the Florida beach with the clearest water.
Caladesi Island, off the northern end of Clearwater Beach (reached via ferry) deserves its own mention, as it’s similar to the beaches you’d find in the Caribbean. It has turquoise waters fronting sugar-soft white sands, making it one of the prettiest strands in all of Florida.
The water in gulf shores is not quite as clear as destin, But the water is beautiful. Here is a link to a couple of pictures I took in gulf shores of the water. The weather has a lot to do with how clear the water is, If it is stormy, the water is less clear.
As far as which is nicer between Destin and Pensacola, they are pretty similar. Pensacola tends to have a more natural feel though with areas of undeveloped beaches between PCola Beach and Navarre or Ft. Pickens. And also less crowded.
The water in Daytona is generally not clear. It is rare that you can see your your knees while in the water.
Ormond Beach, Florida
The beach is well patrolled and the sand is hard packed — great for walking and bike riding. It’s not as crowded as Daytona and its really a family beach. It’s a family favorite.

Have you spent time in the past in Clearwater? The water is usually murky due to the sand on the bottom of the Gulf, and the color is usually a greenish color – not blue.
The only debate worth having is which side of Florida has the best beaches. The Atlantic coast has plenty to offer in the way of water sports. They get the better waves and, thus, some greater action. Florida’s Gulf Coast, however, is responsible for those visions of smooth, sandy beaches and crystal, clear water.
“And the affordability is better on the west coast over the east coast.” The region is also more affordable than the west coast’s better-known destinations to the south, Naples and Sarasota, says Robyn Gunn of the Gunn-Swainston Group of Premier Sotheby’s International Realty in St.
The reason the ocean is blue is due to the absorption and scattering of light. The blue wavelengths of light are scattered, similar to the scattering of blue light in the sky but absorption is a much larger factor than scattering for the clear ocean water.
Siesta Key, Clearwater, etc. Panama City Beach s water range from light blue to emerald green and light blue just depending on some factors Destin and Pensacola is like this too as is Santa Rosa And all the way back to Inlet Beach and 30 A.
As far as beaches go, Dauphin Island is no where near as beautiful as Destin. The water, even on the beach side, is dirtier and the sand isn’t sugar white like Destin, Gulf Shores, etc. It is quieter, but that also means if you want to have a nice dinner you have to drive to Timbuktu.
