Much of the series filming occurred at Culver Studios in California, where a set was constructed to represent the Montecito. Some filming also occasionally took place in Las Vegas. The Mandalay Bay and Green Valley Ranch, two hotel-casinos in the Las Vegas Valley, were sometimes used to portray the Montecito.
Many of Mandalay Bay’s interiors and exteriors (including its wave pool) have been used as Montecito exteriors, although (according to the Internet Movie Database) the actual set of Montecito is located at Culver Studios, in Culver City, California, so the interiors are a replica of the Mandalay Bay.
Much of the Las Vegas filming took place at Aria Resort & Casino, which was selected to represent a “New Vegas” feel because of its modern and upscale architectural design. For contrast, Fremont Street was selected to represent “Old Vegas.” Additional Las Vegas filming locations included: Binion’s.
Due to low ratings, NBC canceled the series on February 20, 2008, five days after the airing of the season 5 finale. Thompson said, “I sold my soul to get a Season 5, so I didn’t have a soul left to sell.
Nikki Cox reportedly left NBC’s Las Vegas due to budget cuts that resulted in a number of the show’s original cast members being dismissed. … Her departure from the show came one year before the series was cancelled, and was reportedly due to budget cuts by the NBC production.
Bellagio serves as the central setting for the 2001 film Ocean’s Eleven, in which a group of thieves conspire to rob its vault. In the film’s 2007 second sequel, Ocean’s Thirteen, two of the characters stand in front of Bellagio, reminiscing about Dunes, which had previously occupied the site.
Las Vegas has been featured in over 100 major films and countless art pieces and photographs over the last 60 years. The glitz, the glamor, and the “only in Las Vegas” vibe make the city attractive and exciting for filmmakers.
